As a self-taught artist I began painting at a young age and actually sold some of my work while I was in High School; however I never really considered fine art as a career. Joining the Young Life staff in 1977 I found myself devoted to working with High School kids, a growing family, and all the responsibilities associated with each. My creative outlets turned more to photography since I could use that in my work. However, when our son was very young, he asked that I paint him a picture as a wedding gift. After more than 25 years absent from the brushes, I wrote a poem and painted a scene illustrating the thoughts I wanted to express to this precious couple. My sweet daughter got married a year later, and I did a picture for her as a wedding gift as well.
Through the encouragement of friends, family and a couple of professional artists who saw those early works, I began to paint seriously once again. I have attended workshops to improve my skills and hope to build a body of work that is excellent and that will provide a source of joy and wonder in what God has created. My goal is to bring the beauty of the creation and its Creator into homes by putting on canvas the incredible color and design He has placed all around us.
As one called to encourage and impact the lives of others, I have also worked to develop some skills in writing. I have completed one book, am currently working on another, and have ideas for future writings. I am not only excited to display a visual representation of God's beauty but also my written expression of God and His world.
